Sutton bin collection day: how to find your dates

Sutton Council provides an official postcode lookup tool so residents across Sutton, Cheam, Belmont, Carshalton, Wallington, Beddington and Worcester Park can find their exact bin collection schedule. Enter your postcode and select your address to see your next general waste, recycling, food waste and garden waste collection dates.

An important detail for Sutton residents: recycling is collected fortnightly but on an alternating material rota. One week your recycling might be paper and card, the next week plastics, glass and cans. Food waste is collected weekly on the same day as your general waste. Garden waste is fortnightly for subscribers. All your waste collections happen on the same day of the week, so you only need to remember one collection day. Sutton Council crews operate up to 6pm, so do not report a missed collection before that time.

How to report a missed bin collection in Sutton

Before you report: Sutton Council will not re-attempt a collection if your bin was not out by 6am on collection day, if the lid was not fully closed, if the bin contained the wrong waste type, or if there was side waste beside the bin. Make sure none of these apply before submitting a report. You must also report within 2 working days (Monday to Saturday) of your missed collection.

  1. Check your bin was presented correctly. Bins, boxes and caddies must be at the edge of your property, close to the pavement but not on it, by 6am. The lid must be fully closed and the bin must contain only the correct waste type for that collection.
  2. Wait until after 6pm on your collection day. Sutton Council crews work until 6pm and may still be on their way to your street. Sutton Council advises leaving bins out until the following day before reporting, in case crews are running late.
  3. Visit the Sutton missed collection form. Go to sutton.gov.uk report a missed collection and complete the online form with your address and the type of bin missed.
  4. Select the type of collection missed. Choose from general waste (black bin), recycling (blue box or bag), food waste caddy or garden waste. Each has its own resolution process.
  5. Leave your bin out and await collection. Once reported, leave the bin, box or caddy at the front of your property close to the pavement. Sutton Council will arrange for a crew to return within 2 working days.
